Oil level guage

Just been out for a spin in the old girl and noticed that the oil level guage that normally sits on the max mark and doesnt move suddenly has a mind of its own and is wildly fluctuating between empty and full, it seems to be moving around all over the place,
oil is about 3/4 between the marks.

This is the first time i have seen her do this any ideas why?

Where is the sender (and oil tank for that matter) i will check the connections.

Thanks.

Sender is on the outside of the oil tank in the RR wheel well. Check your ground, could be a faulty sender. Could be your gauge going bad, too.

Many people drive with the sender in the oil reservoir not working.
Check you oil level manually and don't rely on the gauge.
To learn more about your car, get a Bentley repair manual, you'll like it.
Cheers.

If the guage is pegged at the top, it is usually a sign of an open ground either at the sender or the guage. The flucuations are probably cause by it getting an internittant ground for some reason. Check the wiring at the oil tank first. I don't know if the sender can be repair or if it's worth it to try. As Gunter said, don't rely on the guage even if it is working correctly.
