Front Clunk after Bilsteins install
1988 911 Cab. On driver-side front when hitting a bump I hear a clunk. Boge struts. I adjusted the front wheel bearing play thinking this was the problem. I jack up the front and grasp tire and shake. I can see some slight play with the shock. Anything to worry about? Maybe with in tolerence? Shut up and drive?

How did you torque down the cap on the insert? You almost have to use the proper wrench to get it to the correct spec of 95 +/- 7 ft-lb. I wouldn't ignore it.

wavey,
are you referring to the metal dust cap torque? |
Would I tighten to that torque with the front driver-side jacked up? Or sitting on the ground?

opps...Wavey...reread your post....forget my previous question. Shock needs to come out is what you are saying to tighten down (i.e. cap on the insert).

Right - the cap that secures the insert into the strut. I've seen those loose on other cars and it causes a clunk as the insert moves up and down inside the strut. I don't think you can get a wrench on it with the strut installed because of the dust cover.

yep...they were loose. I thought we had those things tight. No more CLUNK now. Drives better too! As usual this board is ACES! THANKS!
