Where'd the Horses go?

Hey there,

My 911 seems to be missing some horses up top. Torquey as hell until about 3k rpm, then it just kinda flat lines to redline. No unusual sounds, smells, or vibrations...just no real punch (at all) up top.

Now, I have noticed that the fuel pump is getting noisier by the week. It'll whine like a 3 year old all day long. Car is also starting to take a few more cranks to start when warm. Cold starts all seem normal.

Whatdya think? Maybe a new fuel pump will bring back the power, or might it be more involved than that?

Thanks in advance for the help

-Chas

Check the fuel pressure.

How long has it been since you've changed the fuel filter?

Fuel filters should be changed every 10,000 miles...they have been known to plug up with debris, since that is their job...

Fuel pressure is an indicator of the pump's life span AND if the filter is clogged. If you don't remember when the filter was changed....go ahead change it.

It might be the problem.....but.....a pressure test on start up, idle, 2500 rpms AND after turning off the engine will give you an indication as to what the pump is up to as well as the check valve and other parts of the CIS system......

Welcome to the forum, Chas !

I wouldn´t dream of adding anything to what former posters have mentioned (being a newbie as I am), but you will cherish this site - believe me.

Oh, and nice car park you got there ! Didn´t know they made the 959 i `92 though...

Cheers,

Hi there Chas, and welcome from another Scandinavian Pelican!!

Love your 911, and she will love you back - just remember to spend "ALL" your $$$ on her, and she will be happy, I thought my girlfriend was after my money - but she is nothing like my beloved SC

When I first got my 911, I had a problem a bit like yours and it turned out to be bad plugs. I am no P-car mechanic, so please take advice from others first - but checking your plugs for a spark is a quick check!!
