Cigarette lighter size adaptor?
 

I have a 2001 996 C2. The cigarette lighter socket seems to be an overly large size. I have noticed this with my Valentine One power supply, my cell phone charger, and my battery maintainer. The fit is sloppy to say the least. Does anyone make some sort of adaptor sleeve to fit either within the socket or over the 'male' portion of the appliance to be plugged in?

I do believe there is an adapter for that. I remember buying a cord to charge a phone and it had an adapter that slipped around the outside of the plug.

Anyone have a resource for an adaptor? Maybe I'd be better just getting a replacement lighter assembly and having a 'normal' sized lighter............ c'mon guys....... need some help here.

I recently bought a new dash light from Hella....it uses the cig lighter as a power source. It included a 3/4 round plastic sleeve that slips over the plug. Helps for the light and my V1.

There was a little adapter (piece of plastic) that Motorola gave out with their cell phones awhile back that was used specifically to 'fill' the gap for the plug-in adapters on european cars.

You might want to contact a Motorola dealer and ask about it or see if any of your friends that use Nextel might have one sitting in the original box.

Assuming they are still using the dinasaur of maybe two or three waves ago. :)

A few wraps of black electrical tape at the outer end will fix the slop and you will live happily ever after.

I did this on my Valentine plug and it's nice and tight now.

Go ahead and hard wire your V1. The last thing you want is for it to have no power when there is "company" in the neighborhood because it wiggled out. Its really easy to do and well worth the piece of mind.

Decades ago, I had a good stereo shop hard wire a USA female 12V plug in beneath the dash. It has served me well since.
