One more time....CHT question ?????
I did some prep work this morning for the changing of my Cylinder Head Temp Sensor.
Oval grommet came right off.........good. Removed plate and connector from bracket in engine compartment............fine. The question is how the heck are supposed to get the wire thru the heavy grommet that all the sensor wires go thru on the firewall!!!!!! Short of cutting the single wire and drilling or cutting the heavy grommet and applying dum dum to the grommet to seal it...how did you others out there do it? HMMM??? TIA:confused: |
Relax...
If you twist the grommet you'll see where it's already sliced to allow the wires to be inserted into the goemmet. Add a little WD40 around the grommet and push it into place on the fire wall. Not a big deal. |
Is the Part # on Pelican's WEB site the proper part for the dual wire CHT sensor? The picture looks like it's a single wire sensor?!?

Bob, PM received.
Completed the CHT install last evening. Car started right up and seemed to be smoother right out of the box. After she got warm via some rigorous driving the exhaust smelled less rich for sure and car was smooth throughout rpm range with no hesitation. The new CHT was 14mm as opposed to the original single wire unit. I had a DME connector with 2 wires already so the new CHT connected right up. I used plenty of lube on the grommets and they went in quick. This is a definite DIY job and one that should be done if your over the 65k mark to be sure. We shall see what the exhaust gas analyzer says, but I believe it to be sucessfull in lowering emissions. I bought a cheap 14mm ¼" dr socket from Autozone and sliced out a section of the side with a Dremmel for installation....worked great. I also found a really good sparkplug socket tool with a t handle for $4.00 that is just right for a 911 engine. I'll post a pic later. Best regards.........:D |

Yes indeed Merv that's the puppy.
The Bosch part no. is 0 280 130 070 -000 the nut portion is 14mm as opposed to the single wire being 13mm. The connector to the DME side should be 2 pin and your set. Still have the Protomotive set up for sale?? |

Mike, hope the sensor did the trick, might need to have the co ajusted now that things are more in check, that part cured lots of my issues.

where on the engine does this sensor sit?
I looked briefly the other night, and didn't see it. Thanks for the help.... I have an ill behaving 3.2 now that will not idle correctly (not the Idle control valve) Wondering if this could be the cause? |
I think the sensor is on the driver's side up against the car's firewall. The grommet acutally pushes into the engine tin. This is farthest away from you as you look at the engine in the engine bay.

skinnerd,,,,DW is right, pull the driver's side wheel and stick your head into the wheelwell. There is an oblong grommet on the firewall just a little inboard.

After all the hassle it was a very easy job and it should be done just to make sure it is good! The Bentley manual has a chart on testing the CHT. At 60° - 85°F the resistance should be 1.4 -3.6 ohms. Change it. Best regards, |

I can't believe there isn't ONE of these sensors in Australia at the moment! I can buy one from Porsche directly, but that'll cost $231! :eek: If I order direct from BOSCH Australia, it'll take 2-3 weeks to get here and cost me $190 :eek: Might as well order direct from our host! Sheeeeez! :rolleyes: |
