Garage Makeover-Great Product Alert!

In preparation for my upcoming Brake Makeover, I needed to reclaim my garage. This corner was getting real busy:

I spent a lot of time looking at options, and found this product: 2x4basics.com. It's comprised of the legs and overshelf supports, and you cut 2x4s to whatever size you want to go with. While I'm turning into a decent Porsche wrench, my carpentry skills suck. But, this kit is slick, I went 30" X 96" and it's solid as a rock. The legs can accomodate an intermediate shelf, but I omitted it for tire storage. With a little paint and some bling, I'm pretty pleased. I've got no connection whatsoever, but I like spreadinf the word on good products. Note my new Porsche badge on the wall, the best $45 I've spent in a long time. Next up, RaceDeck flooring.

Yeah, a rat trap with a piece of the ULTIMATE CHEESE sitting in it!

I'm really bursting at the seams, I had to do something- and to think I actually built an airplane in this garage a few years ago, paintbooth and all....That was before I was enlightened and got the 911. I'm waiting for Dave @ Produigious to send me my calipers, and then I'm ready to double the amount of brake pistons on my car! I've got everything else stockpiled.

I want my garage to look like THAT!!

... when I have a garage. Maybe next year I'll be getting a house, then the garage becomes the Porsche's bedroom

You have to remain focused...

I told my realtor, "I want a 2 car garage with some type of living space attached."

He did much better then that but he knew what the starting criteria was.

I'm in the middle of a redesign/remodel - when the architect came back with a set of drawings - I sent him away - how in the heLL did he expect me to put in a lift with those low ceilings in the garage??? What are people thinking???

It 's your money. If you tell architects things like this in the beginning, you won't have to send them away. Tell the guy you need a big, tall room for drawing and model making with a garage door or two. He'll understand that.

Being a carpenter by trade, I guess a bench is not much of a challenge. However, I probably have the worst setup of all right now. The key word is space.

I know a bench isn't hard, but I either way overbuild so it isn't rickety, or get it out of level or square, or something. This is a pretty neat product IMO.

wow Ed, your garage is fantastic.

BTW, what size wheels and tires are you running? Looks like 15x7&8s, but what tires and sizes are they wrapped in?

Thanks Ed. As soon as the heat subsides (or I put an AC in the garage) I'm checking those out. Ironically I used to live in Lancaster where these are made. Leave it to the Amish heritage of the area to come up with these.

im an architect in training...if youre in the middle of a garage redisgn i'd find a car savy architect to do the work. if he were a good architect you should be able to give him the basics like Zeke mentioned here and he should be able to come back to you with options you never even realized were possible! ....

The feeling of accomplishment from building your own bench, cabinets, etc. is similar to the one from doing your own work on your car....

OTOH, very few people will build their own forge or smelt their own metal... I do know a crazy biologist who did his own forgings for his wind tunnel tho....

Those are my set of HRE 16" (8.5s & 10s) with 225s/245s. I may sell them, but if not, they'll end up as track wheels, or my Fuchs will.

Thanks Zeke - I did tell him in the beginning - he felt the neighborhood was more "upscale".. too upscale for a lift... and he was paid by the job, not the time.

Yeah... tell me about it...

To remove the t-bars from my car I have to pull out a bunch of drawers from some cabinet on one side and take all the stuff from under my workbench on the other side... and that is AFTER putting the bikes outside.

When I get my own place it'll be 2-car at least (the Audi can sleep outside though) and a pit - you know - so I can walk underneath my car... decent stereo... and a fire extinguisher in every corner The rest is secondary.

Nice garage though!

Very timely! My wife has threatened to divorce me if I don't organize the garage. This looks like a great option..... On second thought-maybe divorce is the better way to go!
