Self install Cat Bypass
 
Is this a fairly simple job? I'm keeping the stock muffler. I'm pretty experienced with DOY car repairs, but this would be my first Porsche project.

I don't have a torch etc., so I'm hoping that things come apart as expected. What should I watch out for?

Rusty bolts. If doing it with the engine out, have an angle grinder ready. If it's still in, then a good dremel with lots of cutting disks. The nuts are usually 12mm, so be careful not to round them off with a 13mm wrench.

Not bad at all. Make sure you have replacement nuts bolts and gaskets. The gaskets shouldn't be reused.

I hit all my bolts with PB balster several days before the removal. All came off with normal wrenching.

It all depends on how rusty the nuts and bolts are. I had to cut (grind) all of the heat shield bolts off, then I had to cut the three bolts between the cat and the muffler. I was able to remove 3 of the 6 bolts between the cat and the header pipes. I had to cut the other 3! This was after soaking all of them in PB blaster for two days in a row prior.

It's not a hard job, but it requires lots of patience.

Heat shield was missing on mine already, but I did take the left rear tire off so I could have a straight shot at a couple bolts. You want to make sure you give it your best shot the first time because if the bolts/nuts round off, then you're grinding. Mine were rusted, but came off pretty easy.

It was only after I removed the cat to install the bypass pipe, did I see the cat was empty. I bought new hardware/gaskets and reinstalled the gutted cat instead of the bypass pipe. Stock looking at least means I can pass visual emissions without having to R&R that bypass pipe.
