Very Rough Cold Start on 84 3.2L

What would cause the following cold start symptoms on by 84 Carrera?

1. When the car is first started, it runs very rough almost dying This goes on for the first 15 seconds or so.

2. Then then the roughness goes away and the idle hunts between 900 and 1100 three or four times.

3. Then the hunting stops but it idles at around 1100 for about 30 seconds.

4. The the idle drops to about 950 and runs smooth.

It seems to complete this sequence of events sooner if I don't give it any gas.

It there some thing on the Motronic cars that should be compensating for cold start conditions? Thanks.

Same problems here. Start the car, idles very rough, coughs a bit, then idle hunts a little and then settles down and warms up. When I had it in for the PPI about a year ago the car was hunting and idling rough all the time, that was fixed with a new potentiometer on the mass flow sensor. Is this normal for an 84 3.2 engine? The engine runs great after it warms up, just rough for the first 30 seconds or so.
