new to me 911
Went on Saturday and picked up my new Porsche, VIN 9115400159 with an engine code of 6660043. The VIN decodes to read a 1975 Porsche 911, Carrera US spec, Coupe, #0159 and the engine decodes to a 6 cylinder, Carrera 3.0, 1976, #0043. So it seems that the engine and the body met sometime later in life. But it runs and drives good. The brakes were new 5 years ago. The car was driven very little during the past 5 years but after some careful steps during start up, and a little smoke, the car idled beautiful.
Goal is a track/autoX car. IMG]http://userpages.umbc.edu/~mcanad1/Pictures/IMG_1391_small.JPG[/IMG] |

Looks like a great project. My car started in the same condition and I decided to do a completely original restoration. Narrow bodies are classics.
Have fun with the project.

That's a sweet ride. I like the color scheme, too. Clean it up a bit and drive the snot out of it! Are those nines on the rear?
Maybe Motorweek will do a feature on it?

Man, I really like that color scheme, never seen that before. That looks like it'll be a blast at the track. Enjoy!

Got a 2 for 1 deal. The car and the trailer for 5K. The trailer looks rough but is sound as a pound. Took the car out for a spin this morning and it is running better and better each time i start it
As for the size of the rear wheel, the side wall markings on the tire are 225. Wouldn't that be a 7.5" or an 8" wheel? also is my decoding of the VIN and engine code correct? I used the search on here to research both and came up with: VIN 9115400159 reads, 1975 Porsche 911, Carrera US spec, Coupe, #0159 engine (6660043) decodes to a 6 cylinder, Carrera 3.0, 1976, #0043. |

Fantastic deal ! ! ! We are ALL very jealous. Now the tough part - you have to decide what to do from here:
Weekend Driver Track Car Full Resto Replica of something else Just flip it for twice the money! Each of these choice has some merit. What is your thinking about it's future?? Note: You definitely just made a BIG withdrawl from the universal bank of karma - check your balance...

the deal was to good to pass up. The car was my uncles and he was not really looking to sell but he just purchased a 1962-63 Porsche (looks like the one you see james dean with, not sure of the numbering yet) and to make space in the garage he needed to get rid of this one. Just so happens that on the way back from an AutoX event I was thinking of what fun car would make a better autoX/ track car than my VW and I remembered seeing this old Porsche in the corner of his garage. Called him up and like magic a week later i am winching it into the trailer to take to its new home.
As for what it will become, not really sure yet. I am taking it to get a PPI either tomarrow or Thursday and we'll go from there. The guy at the garage is scepical that it is a 1975 US spec Carrera w/ a 1976 3.0 engine. but that is what decoding the VIN and engine codes tell me. First things first, i need to get the nasty, moldy carpet and seats out. and to do something about the rust spots |

smoking deal - congrats a US Carrera like this would make an awesome track car. Light to start out with, good performance out of the box.
