H4s dimming

Hi folks. Newbie to the tech forum. Not much of an electrician.

Driving at night I have noticed my headlights intermittently dimming and then going back to normal. I have tried everything I can to try and cause this dimming, but it really seems to be a random event. Switching things on and off, changing RPMs, varying incline . . . nothing will cause it manually.

Thanks!

CL

How severe is the dim? Is it a flicker or does it dim for a while and then come back? If it is for a while and not too severe a dim, I would think it is just something cycling on and off automatically, alternator maybe?

This is a symptom of sticking contacts on the dimmer switch (steering column mounted) due to the increased current of the H4s... pretty common occurrence.
Do asearch here for "Sucro relay kit"

Thanks for picking this up. It doesn't dim very much, just enough to notice that 1) it isn't as bright as it just was, 2) light isn't as "white" - more "yellow". As for duration, up to a minute dim all the way to as short and frequent so as to piss off on-coming traffic who think i'm flashing them. On the whole, though, the lights spend more time operating properly than they do acting up.
