Engine Blanket

Is it absolutely necessary to remove the engine when replacing the insulation blanket?

I don't think so, but I'm not 100% sure. If you have the room in there to remove - go for it. I believe I could in my stripped down engine bay.

I did mine with a partial engine drop and also replaced the rear shocks and motor mounts. No problem...

I just did mine without a drop. You jam it in (dry fit) as far as you can & position the top part so it is flush with the foldy thingie's. Then drape it down & apply your 'good' adhesive to as much as you dare - but the horizontal part at the top is the important part. Then spray it all with the 3M adhesive - both blanket & car. Let dry for 3 - 5 minutes to use it like a contact cement. That will give the adhesive a chance to bond without the pad falling.

I drove it briefly to heat the engine & then let it sit for a day with occasional checks & pushing on it etc.

Whenever I do a drop, I'll glue the extreme bottom portion, but it's not going anywhere.

Thanks for the response; my biggest challenge may be explaining the need for this fix to my wife! Before buying my 911 (my 1st Porsche) I should have been warned that this is more than a car, it is an addiction.

Tell your wife that it will make it much quieter (it does make a difference) & will enhance & maintain the car's value. Hahaha. Good luck.

Now stop laughing at my cruddy fan . . .
