Chrome on a later car?

Anyone modified an SC or Carrera to earlier style chrome window frames, handles, headlight rings? Photos? I've seen the thread that covered chrome headlight rings - looks like it works on some colors but not others (IMO).

Alfa did this on 80's cars with color coordinated bumpers and it looked good (again IMO).

Please don't flame me!

Some SC's had chrome trim stock. Toby (k911sc) has chrome trim, along with Pat Keefe, and EF Hughes, to name a few I can remember. I've never seen a Carrera with chrome trim but that doesn't mean it couldn't have been special ordered from the factory. That seems to be the case with some SC's.

Personally, I am a large fan of the chrome trim: window frames, mirrors, door handles, horn grilles, engine lid, headlight rings, and even lense edges. It definately gives a classier, antique look.

EDIT: EF Hughes has an 84 Carrera w/ chrome targa bar, although I'm not sure if it's original. So perhaps some Carrera's did come from the factory with chrome.

I've been redoing by 83 targa. Decided to go with backdated style with chrome handles, window trim wipers, headlight rings, stainless roll bar cover. Tan interior with aluminum accents. I think it works with the blue color. let me know what you think.

That car with the Robbin egg blue color, chrome trim and the pin stripped sport seats is so far out there, it might be kinda Cool. Definitely one of a kind.

Those all look great to me, especially the coupes. Anyone venture to guess what it would cost to recreate that look?

recreate ... hmmm I think you could buff off the black on your existing trim & then get it rechromed... shouldn't be too much if you did all the removal & taking out of the rubber, felt, etc.

What about the trim strip in the windshield and rear window moldings? Anyone know off hand if the molding with trim strip is currently available for Carrera's, either factory or aftermarket?

SoCal, the metal composition will depend on the car. Early coupe and targa frames with vent windows had chrome plated brass. All the fixed window frames were aluminum. Some were bright clear annodized and some were black annodized. Same can be said for door top trim, rear window frames (although most were aluminum).

jpnovak powdercoated some of his trim in a chrome look, seems a viable option for anyone looking to swap over from the mundane black.
