Anybody familiar with the Dragon!!

It might be of topic, if it is SORRY.Fell free to move it. Someone told me that this is one of the best roads in the eastern US. the strech is about 40+ miles of nice clean road. A friend of mine just got back from it( Aprilia Club). He said that people gather there by brands and last week there wherer lots of P-cars. It sounds like a nice weekend trip!!

Here it is Porsche content!! 911 at the Dragon

The Dragon

It is everything you have heard and more. Even the Cherohala Skyway that leads up to the Dragon is a nice ride.

The web site: www.killboy.com
has many photos and is updated weekly. Usually motorcycles, but has a lot of cars this week. Many Porsches this week - The author is quite critical of those crossing the centerline.....

as he should be. People crossing the center line suck.

I've been there once, loved it, wish it was a one-way.

I was there 2 weeks ago. I wouldn't head up there now though... too many leaf watchers.

Heading to Tail of the Dragon on 9/25-9/26

After the leaves drop would be a good weekend. Week days might be the best.

I'm in...

Here's mine driving the "tail" last year. Came around the corner and there was the photographer. Surprised the heck out of me - thought he was a copper with a radar gun!

And of course the required photo of the Turbo outrunning the SC...

Cool The Dragon....

I had a chance to drive this route in July of this year. It is an amazing road! It is extremly popular with the motorcycle folks. The saturday we were there we only saw a few sports cars and (unfortunately) no Porsches. I thiink the highest elevation sign that we saw was (about) 5400 feet above sea level!

That mini van looks like mine. Last year at Sebring, during the lunch break for the HSR races, I took the same mini van for some laps around the Sebring full course. A Corvette driver behind me says to the corner worker "I'm not driving behind that piece of @#$%." It was a lot of fun and major tire squeal.

The HOD PCA group from Huntsville is going this weekend.
It's best to go during the week if you can.

I keep hoping to meet somebody who has driven both the tail of the dragon and Oregon's 242, aka/The Old McKenzie highway...sounds very similar. 242 was originally blasted out of old Lava flows during the black powder days as a wagon route from Central to Western Oregon. It twists it's way across the backbone of the Cascade Mountain range, just to the north of a trio of mountains known as The Three Sisters. I've never counted the marked 15mph switchbacks. Vehicles over 35 feet are banned, because they simply can't negotiate the curves, even if using both lanes...

They filmed part of movie " Two-Lane Blacktop " at the Deals Gap diner. I also think some of the mountain driving scenes of the '55 Chevy was filmed on the Dragon too.

Looks more like the painfully familiar sight of someone waiting for the tool he caught up with to get out of the way

On the other hand, the link to killboy.com had a great shot of a girl in leathers getting into a corner. Brought back good memories of a friend that I lost a few years ago.
Thanks for the link LakeCleElum.

Oooh... now them there is fighting words! I'll match my Blkbird against any SC! Assuming there's a long straight section for me to get into the boost of course

Hey Chris - you must have forgotten... I was in the SC following you in case some of those turbo parts fell off!

I swear to god I have footage of that Caravan beating cheeks to catch up to me and an Infinity FX300?? on I-40 a few weeks ago. I was driving at about 5/10ths cruising behind the Infinity when I looked up in my rearview to see a MINI VAN gaining on us. I pulled over and set up my Video Camera and caught back up to them so I could video this guy tossing the van around. I was sure he was going to end up in a guardrail.
