3.0 rebuild advice
If I have to rebuild a frozen 3.0, what else (w/o doing over the deep end) should I consider at the same time?
What should I expect to spend for an engine rebuild? Thanks, Lynn |

My experiences so far regarding Engine rebuilds:
Scenario A: Bottom end is okay - crank, rods, cases, oil pump, int shaft are reuseable. AND you are able to reuse your cylinders with new rings and possibly new pistons. You do a complete top end incl. valve guides, but do not have to buy a lot of valves, rockers, springs, cams, etc. You replace the timing chains, and sprockets. You can reuse your intake & exhaust system as is, with minor cleanup only. You spend about $1000 on machine shop work. Mechanics labor is 55 - 70 hrs, typically Parts cost is $5000 to $7000 depending on pistons, valves, rockers, etc, adding into costs. Scenario B: You need/want/desire new piston/cylinder set @$3500 and up depending on year/model You upgrade things like cylinder head hardware, rod bolts, cams, oil pump - can add $1000 to $2000 Other things to look at while you are in there: Add'l machine work Clutch/flywheel Starter Trans rebuild Motor mounts Fuel pump, lines, etc. CIS to EFI conversion Just buying a fresh 3.2 or 3.6 to begin with (priceless)... ![]()
