sanfran downtown floor jack sunday?
So I'm on a road trip from Vancouver to San Fransisco and my starter won't kick. It's getting juice, but no starting action.
The question is if there are any Pelicans going to be near the Marina district tomorrow (sunday) to watch the airplane races? If you are maybe (just maybe) you could bring along a floor jack so I can crawl underneath the car and give the starter a couple of hamer blows ..oh and bring a hammer. Just on the off chance. My cell phone number is 604.329.6656. I'm staying near Laguna and Bay. thanks I hope jasper ![]()

What time? I may be able to help, I have a garage right in Pac Heights. Although I do have a date with a machine shop down in Sunnyvale.

All right - The Pelican community is alive and well in SF. Keith R came out to lend ol' jasp a hand and we got her started with a simple jack and whack. That's the good news. Bad news is that after about 6 hours of hot tripping, the starter stopped working again and I ended up bump starting the b!tch up the 101 through OR and WA. No big deal but I guess I really should take the starter out and "rebuild" it or else I'll be stuck again.
OH well - thanks Keith for your help. It's always goo to hook up with a Pelican, no matter what the occasion. Anytime you or anyone on this board is stuck up in Vancouver, you know who to call for help. cheers ![]() ![]()

Yeah! I'm glad to have helped. Jasper is a very cool guy, and the car is a beast. Rebuild that starter!
Cheers, K

Been a long time since I lived in the Marina, but that looks like you were right across from the Marina Safeway or on Bay near Fillmore. As I said, its been a long time...

My car did te same thing. You need to clean and grease the bendix with high temperature (moly based) grease and that will fix it.

So what happens when you have problem with the starter engine? I have noticed sometimes that my starter engage, but does not manage to pull the engine around. Is it time to exchange the starter or the battery or something else? After a few times on the key it will spring to live.

In my case it was a " go- no go" situation worm. Brought on by heat and/or vibration. Funny thing is it doesn't happen on the street or track, just on long road trips. Greasing the bendix sounds like the ticket.
In your case worm I'd suspect the battery, or maybe the connections to the starter.

Don't use lithium grease - I did the forst time and ended up redoing it with high temp moly grease per somebody on here's suggestion.
