CD-2 in lock-out mode

I bought a used CD-2 CD player for my 964 C2. It is in lock-out mode so it won't accept the security code to turn back on. The shop foreman at the local Porsche dealer tells me that if you leave the power on (the ignition key in the ON or ACC position) and the radio on it will eventually go back to the mode that allows it to accept the security code. He says this could take up to 24 hours to do it's thing. It has been 20 hours and so far no luck.

Does anyone know if he is correct on this?

Yes, keep the power on for 24 hours and it might (and I say might with experience) unlock. Otherwise it has to go to Alpine in CA for recoding. Well, that's where we sent the last one. there's probably others.

Gentlemen.. we have a "CODE" reading

Look at that... just like its supposed to work! 24 hours to the minute.

So I have the proper 5-digit code to punch in courtesy the dealer (thanks to Ron and Justin at Barrier Porsche Service). Is there a special procedure or do I just enter in the digits on the keypad?

Just enter the 5 digits on the keypad, if you mess up continue with entering the remaining digits until you receive the word code again. If you hear a beep stop immediately and enter the correct 5 digits.

If you need the manual for the cd-2 I have it in PDF Format.

I got it working with the proper code and of course the CD player portion does not work. Oh well... the place I got it from will refund me my $$$.

Any suggestions for an aftermarket CD/tuner that plugs in with no hacking and looks decent?

Maybe an old blaupunkt unit, but you will still need an adapter harness to tie it into the Porsche system. Crutchfield at one time had a harness unit for the 911 for power and speakers so you wouldn't have to cut into the factory harness.
