				oil leak on heat exchanger

After convering to SSI's this past week, I'm now getting an occasional burning oil smell in the car once it warms up! looks like a slow leak above the drivers side heat exchanger. I'm betting that the origional exchangers were different enough that this leak (which has likely been there for a while) didn't contact them! any ideas on how to fix-or where the leak is likely from? and why am I smelling this in the car while it's moving? I would think that at 70mph a drop of oil under the car would not cause an odor I would smell??

Most likely leaks would be an oil-return tube, exhaust valve cover, main engine oil line, or case through-bolt. Less likely but possible would be intake valve cover or thermostat, coming down from the top of the engine. You'll have to get under there and clean the area, then figure out where it's coming from. If you're smelling it in the cabin, one possiblity is that the it's getting into the ventilation system. When you put on the SSIs, did you attach the ducts between the SSIs and heater boxes securely?

yeah, everything should be tight (or at least was when I put it on!), I'll take a look this weekend, clean everything off and see, it's definitly getting into the vent. system which is the wierd thing, as it never happened before, so maybe the culprit is a loose connection from one of the hoses? -anyone ever have this issue before? the car has a few slow leaks, nothing signifcant, and uses very little oil, -Adam | ||
