Noisy Sunroof
My sunroof is very noisy when I open and close it. After driving the car for 18 months I decided at 11:45pm to have a look (?? Im sure Im not the only one guilty of such things).
Turns out that the noise is generated from a rubber hose like connection that is about 3 inches long and sits between the sunroof motor and the motor mechanism that actually drives the sunroof cables. When the motor is in operation this thing vibrates like crazy and generates the noise. Now I know Porsche couldnt be that sloppy, and I cant find a part on pelican that fits the description, does anyone know the part number or what that part should actually look like? Thanks in advance (p.s. car is a 67, the sunroof is factory) |

Mine is really noisy as well and my motor will keep running until I remove my finger from the switch. What causes that?

Its design. Mine has always operated that way. I think that's how it works. The connection described above works like a clutch to decouple the motor from the sunroof panel once the panel is in the desired position.

Well I got my pliable shaft. Sadly it looked like the one I already had, just the rubber was a different colour.
I installed it and to no surprise it made no difference. When I first had the car inspected the mechanic told me that they are all like that (the noise). But I have been in a friend's SC that was whisper quiet. Does anyone know why it rattles and how to fix it? Little help! |

Coming back to this...obviously I'm in good company.
The sunroof motor in my '72 does the same thing while the 964 sunroof operation is whisper quiet and butter smooth. Actually, when the motor in the '72 is disconnected from the drive cable and run it too is darn quiet, but bolt it in, hook it up and the whole thing makes quite a racket going either direction. OUCH. I tried to cushion the motor from it's connection with the drive but no improvement. Is there something missing that should be absorbing the vibration?

FWIW my original assembly made a lot of noise. When I replaced the motor, everything smoothed out.

I love the loud, robotic mechanical sound that it makes.
