Chugging at 2000

Das Roach has developed a chugging habbit, most noticable at 1800/2000 RPM in 1st and 2nd gears. Happened between morning commute (drove fine) and lunch on Friday (chugged).

Going to lunch..started a little rough, then died at a stop light. Chugs badly, especially in low RPM. Took the cap and rotor off, cleaned the contacts and greased the contacts. Little bit better. Swapped C&R with neighbors, no change.

Removed the DME relay, tapped it and plugged it back in, little bit better. Now it is just chugging at 1800/2000 RPM while in gear. No issues when revving in neutral.

Unbolted and cleaned O2 sensor with carb cleaner. No change. Unplugged O2 sensor, no change.

Need to narrow down possiblities...

Clutch related? It only chugs when in gear or is it because of load?
Injection related? But why only at 1800/2000 rpm?
Ignition related? Most likely but where?

Will get a new DME relay tomorrow and see if that takes care of things. Thoughts?

Read through this thread, wow a lot of possiblities...

Hair getting greyer...

If you unplugged O2 sensor and had no change it possibly could be a bad sensor. I am not sure that it could cause chugging under load though.

I am sure others will chime in.

Just swapped the DME relay with neighbor, (it is nice to have a neighbor with a 911), did not fix it. I am going to get a new DME relay tomorrow as a spare regardless.

The hunt for the chug continues. Any suggestions?

How do i tell if the O2 sensor is bad?

The way to test the O2 is to put a meter on it. As I recall, there are good instructions in Bentleys.

I do not have Bentley's could anyone share the proceedures?

Took it to my mech. Turned out to be a clogged #4 Injector. Replaced.

The Roach is back.
