Dont screw your pretty wife .. you might break her.
Same thought pattern--- go drive your car.

FYI- my 87 targa has 53k miles, mint, and I do drive it, enjoy it, clean it, and put it away. Rain wont hurt it.

What is the worst that can happen? As a pristine garage queen, it is worth maybe $25K tops. As an excellent condition driver, all original, it's work $18K. Either convince yourself that $7K is not worth the emotional stress of not enjoying the car, or sell it and buy a good 911SC that is not perfect, but is a good driver, and don't worry about it.

You sound like you want to buy it. If it is what he says it is, he could sell it for $18k in about 30 minutes.

Thanks for the input everyone......I haven't been disappointed, as I knew the "get over it and drive it" crowd would come out in full force! :D

I sold a '78 Euro SC, that I drove all the time, in order to buy this car. It wasn't perfect, but it had a fully rebuilt engine, a completely refurbished A/C system that would blow icicles, and was bullet-proof reliable. Because it wasn't perfect, I didn't hesistate to drive it.

I'll likely buy another Porsche in the near future, but perhaps I'll go back to a nice SC that I'm not afraid to drive. The situation with my Targa is chronic, and I'll never get over the fear of using it. On the flip-side, I do realize that I may never find another car like it.

My job responsibilities have changed, my wife needs a new car, and I just can't justify having a "museum piece" sitting in my garage at this point, nor can I justify having three cars in the family.

My original thought was to get my wife a car, keep her car for myself, and leave the Porsche sitting in the garage. It's the "leave the Porsche sitting in the garage" part of my thinking that made me realize this particular car is meant for someone else.

Michael,

sent you a PM

You just need a car with a few dings on it - then you'll drive it. There was a nice 1993 964 in the paper the other day - 66k miles 24K - coupe.

Let your wife drive the Porsche :-O
