Talking Got a New Daily Driver

1997 993 C2 Cab. Black on Tan. Car is very clean, excellent inside and out at 78K. Had a rebuild at 36K so CEL is not an issue. Has great stereo, Xenon headlights, CD changer 18" turbo twists etc. blah blah... All of the major maintanance was done in the past 10K miles (new clutch, brakes and rotors, alternator, service etc.) done by RMG in San Jose.

I got it at a good price. The mileage wasnt an issue due to the rebuild and all of the maintanance.

The thing about this car is that it is FAST. Very Fast. Throw you back on your asss fast. I dont mean to brag it up too much but the car seems to be faster than any of the other 993s that I test drove while looking for the car. Seems faster than 282 hp. I was thinking that some mod may have been done during the rebuild...but its more likely its due to proper maintanance that the other 993s may not have had. Car Sounds great too.

So..im very happy with the new ride...now what to do with the 86 Cab? I'm leaning towards keeping it but who needs two 911s? The 86 has been a great car and is in excellent condition.

I may have come across the answer tonight while thumbing through a car magazine. If you have this months Car and Driver, check out the ad on page 12 for Evan Williams Bourbon Whisky with two pics of a classic Corvette elapsed over time and the caption "the longer you wait the better it gets"...meaning "dont sell now, it will be worth more later"...hmm possibly an omen..

anyway, here are some pics of the new to me 993 and also as it sat next to a 996 Cab with its wider butt but slimmed down hips... in a garage today for comparison sake between the two body styles. Anyway...thanks for listening.

But I don't agree on the "who needs two 911s" part.......

I envy you owning 2 911's...a very worthwhile goal. Thanks for the side by side pics. Very interesting differences between the 993 and 996. I personally favor the 993 body.

Congrats on the car. I was worried about your delivery situation with the hurricane(s). Glad it all worked out. Enjoy!

Thanks for the feedback guys. Yes the car is totally different than the 996 isnt it?

catser911... I spoke to Bob Grigsby at EMG who did the rebuild on the car at 36K. He said the PO overrevved it and did some minor damage. They did the top end rebuild and it was not cheap. Judging by how fast this car is, they did an awesome job and also took care of any potential CEL/SAI issues with the improved valves and valve guides. So, Im satisfied there.

"They" say that all 993s need rebuilds at some point, usually under 100K...

Danksman... this is NOT the car from Houston...this is a car that I purchased locally here in LA.

The car from Houston was a total POS, very poor condition and quite possibly a Flood Damaged Car (judging by the 2 inches of mud and leaves in the engine compartment + the mud stains on the interior carpet). Car was borderline dangerous to drive due to some suspension troubles...heck, even the radio was busted and all 4 speakers blown.

Advantage Porsche in Houston totally misrepresented the vehicle and were unscrupulous in the way that they delt with me when I showed up there, test drove it and found that it was a complete POS.

Interestingly, the Houston car showed up on Ebay today... it is a 96 Black Cab. The photos look nice, but the car is a mess.

Im tempted to post negative Ebay Feedback on Advantage because they were unethical...but Im probably going to just bite my tounge and not say anything...maybe I should post negative feedback to save someone else from getting scammed by this car?? What do you guys think?

Alls well that ends well for me though cause this 97 Black Cab is awesome! :

I like it! I will be making a similar move from my '83 to something newer one of these days. And I love that color combination.

Check out the headlights man... Whoever at Porsche went to that 996 design should be stoned in the Stuttgart village square.

A better question is who doesn’t need two 911's?

Sonic, nope but I've really had the itch and am looking at a 2 lot actually. Decided to get my wife an oldr targa and something else for me. This is the longest stretch in 15 years I've gone without even one in the garage, and it sucks. We started a new hedge fund in Jan and all the partners had to poney up so I liquidated a lot of assets.

There is an 82 red targa on eBay (second time around on eBay right now) that’s local and I went and saw it 2 weeks ago. It’s very nice and has all the records plus it’s been serviced for 10 years or more at Don Galbraith. So I spoke to Don, who is a friend of mine and he knows the car really well and gave it very high marks. I drove it and it’s really tight and clean. The consignment guy who has his claws into the owner wants what I think is too much... 14k it’s got 90k miles. I was looking at it for my wife. I would buy it but not at that price. One thing about these cars is you don’t have to over pay with some patience, there is always another one out there.

Sorry bout the thread hijack
