2 newbie questions

I bought my '86 as a project car, and it seems its will be if you know what i mean. I have a two unrelated questions.

1. what is the metal pan that surrounds the engine. I cant seem to figure it out. Im searching the forum but Im not sure what to search for.

2. The car is pretty rust free, but there are some minor spots that need addressing. One major issue I found tonight is in regaurd to the bumper gurads. It seems water has gotten in from the bumper gurads tail light and has totally rusted out whatever metal was in the guard. I havn't removed the guard yet but I have removed the light which practically fell out b/c the screws had nothing to mount to. However, I can see the painted bumper behind the guard and the paint is good. I found replacement bumper guards on the internet and they look like they have 3 threaded rods that connect them to the bumper I assume. My question is what is on the inside of the rubber bumper guard that is metal? Like I said, the image of the new bumper guard looks like a piece of rubber with molded in threaded bolts.

The answer to #1 is that it's called engine tin. As for #2, if the rubber bumper guards are in good condition you can probably just replace the lights. Remove the guard by taking of the nuts behind the bumper and see what you've got. Replacement guards are pricy but replacement lights are not. Welcome to Porsche ownership.

I think your referring to Engine sheet metal, in your first question.

The purpose of the engine tin is to direct the cooling air from the fan to the cylinders, head, and HE's (heat exchangers).....
