One thing I've found about starting my car is that if it's winter (aka 40 or less here in NC) that if it doesn't start and I keep cranking the cold start enrichment circuit will "flood" the engine. So my technique was to crank 5-10 times and if it didn't start, then disconnect the cold start solenoid, crank 5-10 times, and then it would usually start. Then i hop in and drive. I usually keep it under 3500 but if grady says 4500 that makes me less worried about the occasional slip of the loud pedal.

Now that I've got a new starter, I haven't had any trouble. But it's also been warm so that probably helped too.

Hot starting (to digress) i just follow my owners manual, i floor it and turn the key, sounds great!

MFI rules!
