Exhaust advice needed! Looking for that early 70's 911 RS sound!
I have an 86 Carrera 3.2 with stock exchangers and a fabspeed cat bypass. Is there a muffler system out there that gives someone that 74 911 RS sound that is music to everyone's ears?
I heard the M&K and it sounds good but anyone else have a good suggestion or any experience? I would like to go dual outlet and keep my stock exchangers. Anyone have any sound bytes? John

If you want that sound, I think you'll need a bit more than a muffler. Worlds of difference between an MFI 2.7 and a 3.2 Motronic.
In fact, almost nothing sounds like a 2.7. I think they have a sound all their own... |

Gotta agree w/ dd74. If it were *that* easy, we'd all have that special muffer. Having said that, i feel that the muffler that sounds the most 'raw' for our 3.2's is either Ben's muffler (do search, or avail thru our host, i believe) or a Flowmaster (what i have).
These 2 mufflers, in my opinion have more of a raw mechanical raspy growl to them, compared to some of the popular aftermarket exhausts. Added benefit is these two options are cheap ($200 for Flowmaster installed), or about $450 for ben's. After 3 yrs of having the Flowmaster on my 3.2, i'm still stabbing at the 'loud' pedal, just to hear the exhaust note. mike

A good friend of mine happens to be a factory Porsche mechanic, he modified my 75 Carrera 2.8 (originally 2.7) muffler. He told me the factory did a mod to the stock muffler, close the left side exaust pipe and open two in the middle, same place as a stock VW, just wider pipes. the sound is a nice deep growl.

On my '86 I run SSI's and the Dansk single out sport muffler. Several people on this board have heard it and like the sound. Not outrageously loud, but has that raw early car sound.

Guys,
I decided to go with Ben's M&K unit for my 3.2 Carrera. I think it provides the most similar sound to the early 70's RS without having to extensive mods as I plan on keeping the stock exchangers. I did a lot of research before I decided to go with the M&K. The quality of the seam welds is outstanding. Probably the best I have ever seen. Ben's aircraft welding background using high quality sheet metal is a testament to what they do. The sound byte clip on www.mkexhaust.com is music to my ears. That burble at idle and that incredible wind up is what make us drive for 2 hours just to get a Starbucks down the street. I understand the sound clip on Ben's site is that of a dual in dual out. My 3.2 will be able to obtain a very note with a single in dual out should sound just about the same. I could not be more excited !! I looked at GHL, Fabspeed, Dansk and others and the price to performance value is the best out there. If you are looking at getting that early 70's sound, take a look at his unit. I think you will be very pleased. I will post pics and updates when I receive mine in the next 3 weeks.

with 3 cars, 2 kids, and a single income, I wish I could afford to pick a nice 2.7 to stash away but no room
