How to remove this last A/C bracket??
 

How do you remove this vertical bracket for the A/C - in the pic the red arrow shows the bracket in question and the blue arrow shows where it looks like there is a a threaded bolt that you get to how? Is there one under the distributor coming from the other side that is long?

I think you access that from the muffler side. Remove the strap etc and then you can get at it. I watched Tom Amon from Mobile Works West do that when he was accessing a tensioner line to replace........

Yeah I have the muffler/straps off but can't see where the other end of the bolt is...

The blue arrow points to a bolt that is holding the piece of flat stock steel bracket to the engine case. A socket with a universal joint and long extension will probably get at it. I think I removed this bolt, removed the flat stock bracket and then put the bolt back in? I can't remember. The bolt is not long. It looks like a stud with a nut in the middle of it.

The reference to the muffler side by Chris is correct too. There's another attachment point down below, near the rear of the engine, behind the support console- the big black metal bucket that holds the engine in the car.

And so that leads me to the reciprocal question..........

I removed mine during the engine rebuild, even had it powdercoated so that if I ever wanted to reinstall AC again, I'd have it look like everything else, all shiny and black.

So, can it be re-installed with the engine in the car, or will a partial drop be necessary? Actually, I'm also thinking of re-installing it now, not later, for there is now a "hole" in the sheet metal when this bracket should reside and bvlock that "hole".

Can the lower bolt be installed with the engine in the car?

Well, I watched Tom remove mine, replace the tensioner line and then put it all back together in about 30 minutes or less.

Hardest part was replacing the muffler strap and bolt!

With a mirror you can see the allen head screw that bolts the rear section to the front part of the support.

This hidden bolt screws in from behind and is located below the 10mm hex bolt in your picture.

Hit the button too soon there.

To continue, the back section of the support bracket is bolted to the back of the case, behind the muffler, 2 bolts, 17 mm wrench.

There is one other nut which bolts a stud from the support bracket at the right side of the fan housing near where the black wires run down to the oil temp doodad.

With these removed, separate the front from the back and then you are into jiggle city to get the back half out.

It's a thin piece of sheet aluminum bought from the hardware store. I cut it with a jig saw. The thin stuff bends easily to fit the shape you want.
