Importing a 911
from Australia? Yikes but what would be the shipping costs and are there any DOT/customs laws concerning it? The car is a 1979 911 in fine shape. Owner selling it for basically nothing. It is a left hand drive. He got it in Japan years ago. Worth the trouble?!

depends on how you are shipping it. A container from down under may not cost you as much as you think. Being a 79 911 should have no problems entering the US, but double check with customs. Just for reference, a friend imported a 911 from France to Canada, and I think it cost him about $3500.00, that included the container full of furniture too.

I have imported 2 cars from USA- UK .
It was worth the hassle but subtle changes needed to be made. Cost for shipping a car USA-UK is currently $800-900 USD Duties and taxes depend on your residency status etc. A LHD car from Austrailia will have RHD headlamps which will need changing. Unless the car has sentimental value or is half price then I would not bother!. I have looked at USA 930's to ship back to UK as they are better taken care of and occaisionally modified. However due to fuel prices older 930's are cheap there (in UK)and more HP/less weight off the bat. Rgds Ben |
