Would I be nuts to consider a 79 Turbo as a
 

daily driver? The car has 25,000 miles, 1 original owner. I could possibly pick it up for 20K. It needs new brake pads, motor is dry, paint could use some buffing. Do Turbos make good daily drivers?

There are just a few places we can take it over a 100, fortunately, that stretch is on my way to and from work. When I get into town though, its your basic stop and go. Would an 81 SC make a better choice?

for "your basic stop and go" yes an 81 SC would be a better choice. On the other hand, for that maybe an auto corolla with cold air would be an even better choice, and I doubt that's what you want!

As the owner of a 930, I find you can always just drive it and not kick the turbo in.. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

hmmm... I guess it's up to you. Few of us have the perfect roads on the way to work for these cars.

Normally I'd say no, but it's Hawaii, what the hell! You just need a backup plan if you blow an engine (and a backup wad of cash).

Five years on the H1/H2 says buy it. Now you got the H3.
I used to hit 130 on the H2....... up the hill with 7psi before they even had an exit at Waipio!!
And when we could drag at Dillingham when it was weeds and asphault..........with a ratty fence and closed at night.......

Why did I read this post? We were in Hawai'i several years ago. My wife, daughter and me went with your PCA group to someones beach house for a bar-b-q. It was one of the best vacations that I have ever had. I did not want to go home.

Get the Turbo. For God's sake, you already live in paradise. You might as well just live it up.

Get the Turbo! That's one rebellious daily driver. Plus, in the long term its probably going to be far more collectable than an SC. And with the old school turbo lag of a '70s-era 911 Turbo, it should be easier to stay off boost anyway... :D

Get the Turbo. If you don't like it, and I have no idea why you wouldn't, you can always pick an SC. In So Cal, they're EVERYWHERE.

(And I guess I'm one of the lucky few that has over six miles of windy canyon carving every day to and from work.)

By pure coincidence I've got a '79 Turbo with 20,000 miles on it and I'd have no qualms about making it a daily driver on Oahu but the clutch in traffic is a real drag. Sunday morning sprints over H3 would make it all worthwhile.

Go for the turbo and dont look back. I am a little biased as I own two of them and am looking for a third ('76 or 77'). For the money there is no better thrill out there.

but upon my inspection today, it looks like it was neglected, at least cosmetically. So for now, it looks like a Turbo won't be gracing my driveway.
