what's it worth?
Hey everyone,
I have an opportunity to purchase a fantastic 904 replica with an sc euro motor in it. Just curious what my car is worth if I decide to sell it to make room for the 904. 135k mile '86 black w/beige interior targa w/factory spoilers and cruise control. I just had the wheels refinished. Transmission was partially rebuilt(first and second hubs and syncros replaced. SW chip and bypass pipe. New tires have 400 miles on them. Paint is in good to excellent condition. Interior is in good to excellent condition. A/C blows cold. Engine to thermostat oil lines replaced. Valves adjusted 3k miles ago. Dyno sheet before cat bypass shows 199 bhp at the rear wheels. Uses about a quart per 750-1000 miles depending on how hard it is driven. thanks all.

anyone wanna take a stab? I imagine with the bypass it makes about 207 at the rear wheels. really a fantastic car but, the appeal of this 904 is too nice.

condition-condition-condition if you expect to get above $20,000.
That's my stab at it...

Honestly id look at ebay and see what a similar car might bring. I think ebay is a pretty good indicator of what people will actually pay for a car.

I assume you're looking at Carl Young's 904. Sounds like a great car. He's spent countless hours and dollars getting it sorted and correct. It's basically been reengineered. I've seen cars Carl has built in the past, he does nice work.
In terms of the value of your car, I think it depends on how quickly you want or need to sell it. It's a 915 car, so that hurts a little. I'm going to say $13-14k for a fairly quick sale, and $16.5k if you can find the right buyer. Wayne hasn't contacted me yet about the near concours 914 2.0L for $8000 yet, so if you need to sell in a hurry, shoot me a pm, I'm local. Good luck on the 904, it's a dream car, no doubt, and he's got wayyyyyy more into it than he's selling it for.

I would not plan to put my car on ebay. IMHO, ebay is a scewed marketplace where the descriptions of vehicles is highly misrepresented (most state incorrect condition). My vehicle is truly in good to excellent cosmetic condition and excellent mechanical condition and I would feel more comfortable if a local buyer or a Porsche saavy buyer picked up the vehicle. Being a recent Porsche fanatic, I am extremely meticulous and I want it to be represented fairly, and I do not feel as if ebay is the place for that. I sold a couple of vehicles on ebay and had problematic experiences with unscrupulous buyers and nagging questions so I prefer not to go that route. Did I mention that I am the 2nd owner of the car?

I first saw Carl's 904 at the Motor tren car show in VEgas. I could not get it out of my head after that, so I called and talked with him about it. I am still considering it quite heavily but, I would certainly have a difficult time parting with my current car.

I see where this is going. Ebay can give me some great coverage for the car but, you never know who is going to buy it. I would be in no hurry, and refuse to sell it to a dead-beat who would not take care of it. We have all seen 911's that have seen better days and it makes many of us sick. No way

LOL. my wife said something to that effect when she noticed me masking my wheels prior to refinishing them. I took about 3 hours to mask them correctly. she thought I was being a bit obsessive. Believe me, I am nothing compared to some of these eccentric Ferrari 275 guys. On a good day, they are fanatics. On a bad day, they are worse than Bobby Fisher is about chess.
