Rear Stone Guards

I am wondering if my installation attempt was conducted wrong or did I buy the wrong part?

I bought the parts;

Stone Guard, Black, 911 (1974-89), Left, each
Brand: OEM

10-6217-521-M260

Stone Guard, Black, 911 (1974-89), Right, each
Brand: OEM

10-6217-522-M260

These do not fit the rear of my Carrera ... They appear to be peel and stick yet they are not even close to fitting? The link says 911 (1974-89) My car is an 85. These cost me about $40.00 CAD including shipping.

Has anyone else installed these on an 85 Carrera?

I am not pleased.

Maybe they sent the ones for a widebody.
As for the instalation.
The rocker panel should be off.
Get a pan large enough to be able to soak the pieces one at a time.
Use warm soapy water.
Soak the guards in the water for several minutes, the back will get slimey.
Take a sponge and wet fender with soapy water.
Place guard on fender where you want it.
Make sure you have it exactly where you want it. Once you start the next steep it is very difficult to move the guard.
You can use a soft squeegee or soft plastic bono spreader to squeegee out the water and air bubbles.
Just be careful not to drag across you paint.
Dab it dry, just removing the majority of water. Do not rub.
Thats what I did, others may have variations.

You really use soapy water with these even though they are sticky back?

In which direction are they to large?
Are you sliding them down past the rocker molding line.
And yes even thought they are sticky. The soap and water makes them stick better and you can slide them around to the exact position. Have you ever seen them apply window tint?

Looks fairly similar to the size of the magnetic ones I sometimes use:

Yes I have. I applied the passenger side first and with the bottom of the stone guard square to the bottom of the rocker panel the top is about an inch to far into the flatened part of the roll in the fender ... Seems weird unless you soak them in hot water and the become pliable I guess.
