Winter/colder months, anything I should be doing for seals?
Completing a successful season of driving after rebuild.
Will driving the Porsche less due to the winter months effect the seals? And how many seal miles are typical on a Porsche? Thanks!

Lots of people let their 911's sit all winter with no ill effect. You should be fine. If you aren't driving it at all, put some fuel stabilizer in the tank and run the engine long enough for it to run through the fuel system.

I've heard and read that the synthetic oils help the seals out on older engines. Well I let mine sit all winter too and I usually use just regular oil. But when I change it this fall I'm going to use the synthetic because if it helps they seals and prevents leaks it should be good for a stored car too. I hope it keeps my engine seals fresh. This year might not make a big difference but by the time I'm getting ready to store next year it should.

WCC, maybe that is a good idea in other engines, but synthetic oils in older 911 engines tend to create leaks.

Oh, I just did a search on the synthetic oil. You are right that seems to be the consensus. I think I'll just stick with my Castrol GTX 20W-50 NON-synthetic..... Thanks Kurt!!!!

I may drive mine some this winter.
I'm trying to understand somewhat the physics/compositions of these seals. What are they anyway? Seemed like firm hard rubber. How do they fail in the first place if the car is properly driven and cared for? Does frequent oil changes benefit the seals also?
