How to wire a CIS engine into a '69 chassis
After spending a good deal of time figuring out the connections between a CIS engine with a 14 pin connector and the 6 pin connectors on my '69 911E, let me publish the checklist I used to successfully connect the two.
Porsche wiring checklist connections required to run a CIS equipped 1974 911S/Carrera engine in a 1969 911E/S: Connector T14b Pin #1 Do nothing - connect yellow wires from '69 chassis and '74 engine harness to starter solenoid Pin # 3 Connect jumper to Green/Black wire from left 6-pin connector on bulkhead for oil temperature Pin # 4 Connect jumper to Green/Red wire from left 6-pin connector on bulkhead for oil pressure Pin # 5&6 Do nothing - use backup switch wires from '69 chassis Pin # 9 Do nothing - use '69 coil and attatch Red/White wire from right 6-pin connector on bulkhead and Blue/Yellow wire from rear engine compartment wire harness to #15 connection on coil Pin # 10 Connect jumper to terminal #87 on new relay added for warm up relay Pin # 11 (D+) 1 - Connect jumper to bottom aft tab on regulator block using female connector on jumper 2 - Connect jumper to Blue wire from left 6-pin connector on bulkhead using male spade connector on jumper 3 - Connect jumper to terminal #86 on new relay added for warm up relay Pin # 12 (D-) 1 - Connect jumper to middle forward tab on regulator block using female connector on jumper 2 - Connect jumper to terminal #85 on new relay added for warm up relay Pin # 13 (DF) Connect jumper to upper aft tab on regulator block using female connector on jumper Other Connections Coil #1 Connect to ground on fan strap Coil #4 Connect to distributor Coil #15 Attatch Red/White wire from right 6-pin connector on bulkhead and Blue/Yellow wire from rear engine compartment wire harness to #15 connection on coil (see Pin # 9 above) Bosch Generator B+ Attach large Red wire with nut Bosch Generator D+/61 Attach Blue wire with nut Bosch Generator DF Attach Black wire to vertical leg of "T" shaped connector Bosch Generator D- Attach Brown wire to horizontal cross member of "T" shaped connector Terminal #30 on new warm up relay Wire into rear fuse block - attach to inboard wire which is keyed-on power I hope this helps anyone attempting this installation.
