HELP!!!
I have a '73 1/2 911T and am trying to change out the steering wheel. I remove the horn button/cover from the center of the wheel, and am left looking at a small hole in the center of the wheel. The bolt that I think clearly will allow me to remove the steering wheel is on the other side of that center hole, and about twice as big as said hole.......how do I get at it???? is there some simple secret????

Re: 1973 steering wheel removal ??????
Quote:
My wheel is held on with a nut requiring a 27 mm socket. I can easily get the socket into the hole for boththe stock and aftermarket momo wheel.

Depends on which wheel you have. See if this is what you are looking at:
Steering wheel removal?

OK, am I ever smart...I posted a reply to the other link....
![]() Anyhow- here are two pictures of the steering wheel without the horn pad/mechanism. You may not be able to see too well, but the nut is much larger than the hole in front of it . ( the dark circle in the center is just the shaft that the nut is screwed onto. I also loosened and looked behind a circular plate on the back side. It doesn't seem to allow me to get at anything that I can unscrew or remove. To get any better look from the backside, I will have to remove the turn-signal and washer/wiper lever assemblies....I don't want to do that if not totally neccesary!!!! ![]() ![]() ![]()

That round disk in the middle is NOT on my wheel. That is where the nut is.
Can you grip the edge of that disk with a wrench of some sort and turn it? Or perhaps it is some type of press on fastener where you will need a wheel puller to remove the wheel by pressing it out? Also, post this question on the Early 911S BBS (http://www.early911sregistry.org/forum/index.php). Maybe someone there can help you out.
