Hell of a first DE
Well, I took the plunge and got out on the track. Great event - great people, good driving, and a monsoon.
I am definitely going back. Highlights included actually driving, having my instructor tell me (once or twice) that I had gotten a turn right, and seeing the cars that showed up. Oh yeah, and Botho Von Bose (PCA National treasurer) showed up in a SICK GT3 and let me drive it. Botho, if you are on Pelican, thanks - it was awesome. I'm just sorry I don't have any good pictures of it. ![]() ![]() Botho's GT3 hiding behind the 997 ![]() Can you tell who the new guy is? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I must have seen this repeated 5 or 6 times on the drive back to the city: ![]()

What track are you at?
The 944 needs pontoons.

Track? Looks more like a regatta.

9dreizg, judging by your signature, is that your Audi?? That really sucks. And to think we here in the San Francisco only had 1 light shower so far (yesterday) since probably May. Hope condtions improve over there.

The DE event was at Pocono. One of the worst weather events we ever had. We usually pray to mother nature to spare us with any precipitation at our Oct event since it usually means snow or hail. We are used to the cold temps in Oct. She blessed us with above freezing temps but doused us with 9 inches of rain in one day. The track was soaked. Ive never seen so much running water at the track. My car never left the trailer. I should have brought a boat instead. All considering, the event went well with everyone driving with their heads with no major incidents. Now if I can get them to drive like that when its sunny and dry.....

From what I have seen of the rains in the northeast for the last ten days, you folks need to look into Porsche boats.
Really I'm sorry for all the wet weather. I hear there is a guy building an ARK.

Its been crazy. I lost water in my house friday night, went out to my water pump by my well and it was 2 ft below water. So saturday morning was a chore in itself bailing out the water and trying to not get electricuted..lol

No that wasn't my Audi, that was an S4.. Oh and it get's worse. The student was an Prthopedic Surgeon, and he broke his finger in the accident. Apparently they hydroplaned coming thru the S's ( so much for AWD)

Yup, track was pocono. We were driving pocono north, which was much smaller than I expected. Great fun nonetheless. although it does add a little tension into the mix to feel the lightness in the car that the wet brings about.
As for the audi, that's just miserable. My instructor was pretty reserved when he was taking my car around - you'd have to be going much faster than we were to do something like that, esp. given the weight and wheelbase of the audi. Tim, I have no response - that's a little weird. Although she is a 3.4 TRUE super carrera, so the rebadging is somewhat appropriate.

Instructor to student:" These Audi's are suppose to be great in the wet!" I can't see how any club would let others driver YOUR car. Insane! Watkins Glen is the last place in the world you want to drive fast in the wet, little run off, high speeds. Ugh! |

In our region (NNJR-PCA), an instructor is pretty much going to drive two laps in your car in the novice groups, to get the feel of it and evaluate it. Risk is assumed by the entrant, not the instructor...that's the waiver we sign.
I was at the Glen last week in the rain; it was kind of fun. The Turbos and C4's lose some of their advantages in the wet!
