Options to replace ugly SC rear bumper things

I can't stand looking at those ugly big lumps of rubber on the 81 SC rear bumper any more. What options are there for replacing just those pieces or the entire bumper or ??.

many thanks.

Those ugly big lumps of rubber weigh about 8 pounds each.
I took them off and rode around without them, but that was really ugly. I finally went with a FG bumper. After taking all that weight off the back of the car you will feel a difference in the way the car rides.

What we need is pictures of the options
Has anyone removed the rubber off the bumpers (SC or?) and filled the holes?

I also hated the bumperettes. Someday I am going to backdate but I made these out of Alu. till then. They look better in real life.

Nice look Dean.

I'm not a fan of FG for daily or street drivers. The Risk/Reward is not justified IMHO.

Here's a 911SC from the rear, but, unfortunately, it's a little in the shade.

All you have to do is remove the "dagmars", plug the holes with body plugs from Ace Hardware, paint the plugs body color, and for a grand expenditure of $1.20, you can see what it looks like without the "dagmars". Then, if you like to look, you can get a body shop to fill in all the holes, and repaint the bumper. OR....

And if you don't like it, you can put it all back together again.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1129551167.jpg

I not sure what the "risk" are with F.G. bumpers, the crash bumpers are govt. mandate and sort of good for a 5mph crash. Big Deal! If you ruin my F.G. bumpers they are ezer to fix then the original P.Parts.
Any real crash is not going to mater very much....lmo

anzures,

Nice! Did you do the same treatment with the front accordians?

Yellowbird RS 10-17-2005 07:53 AM

John, I'm using a FG RUF bumper in front just made a big steal bumper under skin protective device

Sorry, no pics off hand (at work now and no one's looking). The simplest solution to removing the ugly bumperettes is to simply replace the holes with plastic plugs which you can source from Home Depot or Lowes. Touch up with body color (the plugs will be either black or white) and the bumper looks good ...obviously not quite as good as filling the holes and painting, but a whole heck of a lot cheaper and easier.

Anzures that looks awesome. Any details on how you made the aluminum piece to replace the accordians? Sorry i am a moron when it comes to making anything out of metal so I was just wondering how you did it.

Nice work
Cheers

Bumper Pad

We are working on a replacement pad which will mount using the existing holes and license plate lites and will be only 2 inches thick and foot print of approx 4.5 inches by 6 inches.

They will be black and made out of a hard rubber material. We are about 60 days from production.

Anzures,

Thanks for the link. I really like the look of the accordian delete.
