Drivers side mirror glass
Drivers side mirror glass just fell off tonight and shattered. 84 flag mirrors.
Replacement cost $70??? What is the glass made of? Any alternatives? Regards, Scott

Take the plastic piece out of the mirror housing and have a glass shop cut a new mirror and glue it in for you. I did this on my pass mirror when it fell out a couple years ago.
The plastic piece was a PITA to remove on power heated mirrors. There is a plastic ring on the back side that needs to be rotated to remove it.

stomachmonkey,
like the idea about getting a new piece of mirror placed on the plastic base, but be careful removing it. If it is a 84 flag mirror, it should be the 3 prong type which needs to be carefully pried out of the housing best, with a plastic tool. The ring type is later (from 89 on, I think). Do not put anything up the hole in the bottom to turn the ring, you'll ruin the motor. Don't ask how I know that.

You might consider an upgrade to the "panomirrors".
Panomirrors Link I don't know if our host carries these, but they would improve your outlook at a good price!
