Cayman competition: Z4 coupe

http://www.germancarfans.com/spyphotos.cfm/spyphotoid/6050920.001

I know some aren't fans of the newer BMW's styles, but this coupe looks interesting. Even more so is the 400+ horsepower planned to be put in it.

Too heavy, too comfortable.

And yes, IMO the BMW design dept took a leave of absence a while ago.

Heavy yes, but on one of the latest "Fifth Gear" episodes, the Z4 beat a new Boxster around the track, and it wasn't very close.

All these new cars look interesting... Gobs of power, incredible chassis, fantastic electronics, 0-60 in sub 5, top speed in the 180-190 region, 400 hp minimum...

Where is the fun? The limits for these machines are so high that everyday driving will be boring...
I think, butchering James Hunt, I'd rather drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow.
I used to have an SLK 32AMG. Insane torque, a bullet... It was also OK in the twisties... but after a while it lost the allure...

I agree with 911teo. I was frustrated with my former 993 C4S because in the general around town weekend driving I got to do with it, it wasn't that much fun - first and second gear mostly. I have a 930 now and it's a more enjoyable drive for a couple of reasons, but still, I suspect something like the Cayman S or new MX-5 Miata would be very satisfying in the real world of less-than-track speeds.

Say what you will about the company and the cars, but I still think their wheel design team is one of the best, if not the best, in the industry.

Here is a download link. The other comparison were fun to watch also.

cayman will spank it. even if it's close, the beemer's brakes will start fading away. i have no idea why to this point, even on the M cars, they insist on AVOIDING ap-racing or brembo hardware. it's almost like they are cost-cutting. silly krauts.

Here are some more (accurate) photos.
Now this is what the 350z should have looked like.

I like the Z4 Coupe (but, then again I am a BMW fan).

As }{arlequin points out, the weak link on nearly every BMW (used on the track) would be the braking system. They sort that out on the Z4 Coupe, they've got something hot.

Looks great, btw.

Regarding the 5th gear episode.
If memory serves me right it was the top of the line BMW (more expensive than the Porsche) versus the base Boxster.

I find the harsh creases on the door/fenders clash badly with the curves on the car:

Now this is a BMW:

It's an ugly car, upside-down cock and balls just like it's precedessor the M-Coupe.

I prefer the looks of the Z4 to the Z3, but the M-Coupe looked better than the Z4-hardtop.
