Chevrolet small block conversion??

I am interested in getting more horsepower out of my 81 SC and am considering the conversion kit from Renegade Hybrids. My SC is my first Porsche and I love the car except for the power that I have had with other cars that I have owned. To get better horsepower out of my car I at least need to rebuild the engine. When I started looking at prices I started thinking there must be a better more inexpensive way. In my search I found references for a SBC conversion. At first I thought it was a joke. After more research it has gotten my attention. For about as much as a rebuild of my current engine I can install as SBC with almost double the HP. I am not concerned with resale value since I plan on keeping the car and am about to go through an RSR conversion using GT Racing body parts. Any thoughts?

put on your aesbestos fire suit to save you from the flames you may receive here. Then, do a search on v8 conversions...hope you find out what you're looking for. :)

RSR's don't use v-8's. I think the conversion will cost you a lot more than you think, and whether or not you plan to sell it will significantly reduce the value of your car.

If you want to save money, rebuild the 3.0 yourself. They're a solid engine and a great base for a hotrod motor. There's plenty you can do to get good power out of it:

Also, be prepared to have many "spirited" responses...

It is actually highly recommended. Most of us here have done it or are in the process of doing it. The 911 engine sucks, it's the weakest part of the car. With a V8, that weakness is cured.

You should order the Renegade kit today, I've heard they are in short supply, and you don't want to be left out!

Post lots of pictures of your conversion process!
