There has been a Bosch manual posted as jpg:s here on the BBS. Try the search to locate it.
You will probably have to be somewhat electrically inclined and have some equipment to do it.

Does it still "whine" when you turn the key on? BTW, I'm looking for a rebuildable core if you decide to go the MSD route...

The square finned box located on the left fender of the engine compartment...has wires leading to it, Capacitive Discharge Ignition, made by Bosch...

The only proper way to bench-test is to hook it up to +13.8Volts, hook up a coil with spark plug and a signal generator that simulates the trigger signal. Let it spark at various simulated RPM's between idle and 6000RPM for at least an hour (it needs to come up to operating temperature). It should work for voltages between 12.0 and 14.8 without latching up. Check if current consumption is within the specified range around 1.00 Amp without sparks and between 2.2 and 2.6 Amps with sparks.
While it sure is broken if it does not whine just the whining alone does not mean the box is functional. Ingo

The easiest would be to put it back in a car and use it for a while. Itīs an easy swap.
Then you would be 100% sure that it works.

Here are the threads with documentation of the 3-pin CDIs:
Perma-tune CD or Bosch CD? History of Bosch CDI ... toubleshooting info, parts list changes, and schematics ... I haven't posted any updates to the latter thread recently due to a 23-day stay in the hospital ...

Warren...23 days? Man, that had to be something serious! I hope you're okay now. I've done a similar stretch...hospitals are great when you need them, but they're even better to be OUT of!
