Four Friday night questions (with pics) 78SC Euro...

I got my Bentley manual today, but I have 4 simple questions that I hope the pictures can help better illustrate:

What is this threaded hole near cylinder 5:

Did I put on the straps correctly? I have clips on the top of the air box, and bought the better ones -- not sure if correct.

This plug has always been disconnected - what is it for?

I have the jack pad, a floor jack. And I bought a 911 jack on ebay for $15 -- I am still not sure on the recommended way to raise the car to change tire:

Thanks in advance guys!

#2 - the strapes should go into the curves part of the metal spring

#3 - your car was upgraded with an interrnal voltage regulator (in the alternator). So the external one including the harness(plug) is obsolete

Wow - I don't think I understand how the straps should go. Can someone post a pic?

The metal part should go into the rectangular cut outs in the strap.

I use the jack/jackpad to raise the car 95% of the time. The rears come up quick. You can continue to raise it enough to pull a front wheel.

But, when working on the car, you want it on jackstands:

For the fronts, I raise the side of the car enough to put a 4X4 under the front wheel. Then lower the jack, and put it under the front crossmember just rear of the wheels. I think Bentley will show this location. Jackstands can go under the front A Arm mounts, and the rear torsion bars.

PS-The jackpad goes in the square hole in the rocker panel just in front of the rear wheel wells. There should be a plastic cap there to cover it-it pulls straight out.

Ron - thanks I get it now. Ed, yup, I was just confused as to best way to jack it up, it just wasn't clear to me.

Anyone know what the threaded hole is in pic #1?

The threaded holes, and there should be one over #4 too, are for studs. As I recall, they are for the A/C compressor mount assembly. Looks like your got stolen , so you don't need them.

Number 1, is where a bolt goes to hold down the engine cover. 10mm head x 4 mm bolt x 10 mm long. Should be 3 on the each side.

You dont need the jack pad if youre using the factory jack. - But the one in the picture isnt correct for the car you have. The factory jack has a @5-6 inch "arm" sticking out horizontally that inserts into the frame the same place the jack pad goes. You raise front/rear from the same spot. The jack pad is for use with roll around jacks like the 2 ton one in the picture.

The half scissor jack looks like a VW jack. Both of my Scirocco's had jacks very similar to your $15.00 eBay jack.
