Exhaust (Muffler)

Just thought you guys may like to see the pics of my new exhaust, not on car yet but due to be fitted soon, the Sports pre silencer is a Dansk unit and has no silencer/muffler at all and the rear box/muffler is made by Hayward and Scott.

Both are stainless and the welding on the H&S is beautiful, i'll post more when its on the car - sound etc.

You need a snail/turbo in-between that muffler and cat-bypass

Ben, Hayward and Scott are UK based; well known fabricators over there who do work on all types of classics and modern Porsches, Ferraris, Evo's, Sub's etc.

However they are not 'cheap'....but you get what you pay for I guess.

Hi Whitechameleon.

I'm from the UK and was pointed at hayward scott for an exhaust for my 3.6 conversion but the problem would be that they would need to car to fit it and I would have to trailer it up there = more hassle and cash.

What were they like to deal with - did they make the exhaust on the car or provide it as a standalone piece?

Please keep us posted on what it feels and sounds like, good luck.

Hi Jevvy,

I live in Manchester and didnt want to travel all the way to essex to have it fitted so i just ordered it over the phone and they made it to order and posted it to me. It did take them 6 weeks though after i was initially told it would be 3.

The way they work is i gave them my dredit card details over the phone when i ordered it and they take the payment when they post the exhaust to me 6 weeks later.

I guess with it not being for a standard car they may need the car there (mine is a standard SC) so it can be custom made.

The price was £400 inc VAT and delivery.

Just got exhaust on and i have to say the results are even better than expected, very deep and rumbley but not too loud except when i'm on it when it has a loud bark. Pops and bangs on downshifts, which may not be to everyones taste but i love it (possibly down to straight through Dansk sport pre silencer)

Doesn't seem to have lost any power or torque, but i wouldn't say it's gained any though either. either way it still sounds damn fine in my opinion.

Hay Whitechameleon, Nice set-up you have there. I have been thinking about replacing the exhaust on mine next year due to rust

Just a quick question, what is your reason for not going to SSI and having a 2in 1out??

The main reason i didn't go for SSI was mainly due to cost, I just couldn't afford SSI's at the moment.

Perhaps in the future sometime, also i live in the UK in a city where it is almost gridlock and there are very few times and places that it is possible to put my foot down. having said that she will be doing a few trackdays next summer where SSI's would be useful.

Wow £400 quid is still pretty steep!!
On my backdated car I am running a muffler bypass which sounds awesome and cost £60 + a original shape Dansk Stainless premuffler, which is better then the one you have chosen IMHO as its reported to realease more HP. Do a search on Pelican and get the full results. I think its to do with the shape of the premuffler and theway the gases exit.
Steve Wong chip is on the way for even more power and then a dyno run and final chip tune by Steve shall follow.

I must say though the muffler looks excellent quality and finish.

I don't get it. You make a custom exhaust and turn the gas 180 degrees back to the left. Why not just exit right??? I would think it would be much superior to exit right than left.

At least it is on my car....

I could have had it that way but i didn't want to cut the rear valance and who am i to question Hatward and Scott who have been fabricating porsche exhausts for 30 years.

Examples of their work

Looks like a great set up. How does the muffler mount? Let's see some pics of that "chocolate monk" with it on there.

regards

Have today noticed after further inspection that the tailpipe on my shiny new rear muffler is about 1" too far over to the right, so my local porsche man decided to cut the rear valance to make it fit and frankly it looks like a dogs dinner. What do i do?

I could pay someone to cut/bend the tailpipe over to the left more where the OEM was (which was what i wanted originally)but that will still leave the messed up rear valance. Any ideas?

How would this look with the rear valance removed all together?

Anyone done this on their SC with a single out? Would it look too ratty on an otherwise std car?

This is a pic of the car before new muffler went on.

I would also remove the fog light.

Will take some current pics when i get chance, car is kept at folks at the moment until i get my garage built this week.
