Installing factory light on engine lid?

I'm reinstalling the factory engine lid on a 1979 SC Targa I just bought and I have the original light that lights up the engine bay. The wires look like they have all the original connections on them but I have no idea where these two wires go.

Could someone with the factory light hooked up please explain to me where these wires go. A picture would be even better but as they say, beggers cannot be choosers. Thanks in advance.

Here's a pic...grey on the right brown on the left. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1129939263.jpg
If you were referring to where they go from the light...I'm not sure but they chase around the left side of the engine bay and head toward the front of the car. I'm guessing they tie in to the headlight switch since this light only works if the lights are on.

The top pries off and there are two posts with screws in them to connect the wires.

Thanks, actually I 'm wondering where they hook up to in the engine compartment. Interesting to know that it only works when the headlights are on.....I guess that narrows my search if nothing else.

Well posting a pic of my light would be of no use. My harness has never been opened and all you can see is the vynal covering. It runs down the decklid comes out from the left hinge and disapeares through the fender behind the fuel filter.
Good luck

Stuart,

Why not just wire the lamp to the unused fuse on the electrical/relay panel, and use a pin or microswitch to operate it. A toggle switch on the relay panel could switch it off if desired.

Stuart -
I had a car once where the engine light wire was damaged/melted in the loom going forward. Instead of hacking up the harness to fix this one problem I wired the light into the right rear taillight so that it worked with the light switch on as designed.
Good luck -

Go to Lowes or Home Depot and get one of those battery powered round lights .

Engine lid light.....

On my SC, the engine compartment light will work when the parking lights are switched on. The light actually has a switch built into the unit. It is the rotating cover that protects the bulb when the light is not needed. If you can not find the original harness leads that the light was connected to, you should be able to run the hot lead to the small fuse panel in the engine compartment for power. That way, anytime you want light all you have to do is open the bulb cover. Just be sure to manually turn it off or you might come out to a dead battery.

Good luck!

Thanks for all the help.....With a little searching I was able to find what I think was the original plug right on the left side of the engine compartment behind the fuse box. It was a wire out for the "left side" parking lights and had the factory cover for my plug. The other wire was a ground that fits perfectly grounded to the fuse box. Afte getting it installed I was messing around with the light and blew the fuse. I checked the owners manual and it shows the engine compartment light shares the fuse with the left side parking lights so I think I'm all set.

One more project off the list.....
