SC distributor with pics.
Heres is a pic of the suspected faulty distributor, as you can sort of see the bushing is so far gone that it has actually closed the gap on one side and widened the gap on the other. Also it has somewhat dished out the prongs sticking up and actually sharpened the point's of the star. Well I am sure I am beyond just replacing bushings do i need anew one or could I get by with our hosts rebuild option. Just not to fond of the 4 week turnaround.
there is also significant up and down movement. any suggestions would be appreciated. ![]()

interested in the outcome of this. If the distributor has to be rebuilt let us know if your past problems are fixed. I have a slight miss in my Carrera I have been chasing for weeks. Mine has no side to side movement but quite a bit of up/down movement.

I will definetly post the outcome of all of this. because like you 84 I have been chasing the original problem for a long time now. I sort of stumbled on this, but hope it is the source of the original problem.

Rod.....
What's the verdict? Did you replace or rebuild the dizzy, and did it fix the problems? Elvis~ Did you try anything with your distributor too???

Patrick - This is my response in a similiar thread----- Have you checked the timing? I had a similar problem last year after buying my car. The problem started after I changed the plug wires, cap and rotor. After several post here, and changing out the new items again i gave up and took it to a shop. He kept the car a few weeks and couldn't find the problem. Took it to another shop- they said it was a valve guide issue- wrong. I finally found a shop that diagnosed the problem in about three minutes. The PO had the spark plugs on the dist. cap in the wrong sequence. When I replaced the plug wires with the new ones in the right sequence it made the timing be off. The shop re-oriented the distributor one tooth and the car runs like a top. EDIT- During this process I changed out the cap and rotor three times- the car would run fine for a few miles and the problem would return- my cap and rotor would look exactly like the one in Indigo's post. ----- Hope this helps.

thanks Elvis!
Timing had been checked, as well as firing order... I took the cap off again, and there is just a slight amount (1/16th) play in the shaft... The only 2 things left that haven't been swapped or replaced, are the distributor, and the eninge wiring harness.. Our host, has an unbelievable deal on rebuilt dizzy's, so I ordered one today.... I will post my results as soon as I install it.

if it's consistant with one cylinder a temp test of the exhaust tube should spot which one. A lean fuel to that cyl would cause detonation which crashes the EGT. Detonation could lead to a hot spot causing a miss-fire that raises the EGT big time.
