Window straps project

I've seen many people ditch thier manual window regulators and install nylon straps to raise and lower the wondow. I have been looking in to this because my door panels are currently off and im looking to save some weight. Does anyone know how exactly to do this and what material I should use for the strap? Can this be done with glass windows?

nobody knows how to do this?

For anyone who also wanted to know how to do this you just get a nylon strap and somehow attach it to the window. Chuck from Elephant Racing just emailed me explaining how to do it.

I was wondering if you have to have the windows? I am doing a DE next weekend, and I was thinking Of leaving a window That I have trouble with, out for the weekend. Does any one do this?

Redlineshftr 10-23-2005 04:16 PM

im not sure if I understand exactly what your asking, do you need windows for DE? or are you asking if you need windows for the nylon strap?

FrayAdjacent911 10-23-2005 04:22 PM

I think he means actually removing the glass... running without it completely. I'm not sure if a DE would require you to be able to roll up the windows or not... I've never been to one.

im not sure either...

Well redlineshftr Let us know how to do it. How does he staches the strap to the window. How do you leave the window up if you want?

Let us know

Redlineshftr 10-23-2005 04:52 PM

he unfortunately didnt go into detail. The only problem that i can see is that you have to drill a hole into your window to fasten the strap to. I was thinking of a way to keep it up too and today the idea crossed my mind about a single snap button on the strap and on the door. I think it would look somewhat out of place but it would work.

When Chuck from Elephant racing did it in thier Rgruppe car the yhad polycarbonate widows so the yare much lighter and eiser to drill into making this project a lot more simple. Im planning on tackling this sometime this week ill keep everyone posted on how it comes out. Can anyone think of another way to fasten it so that the window doesn't fall down?

Redlineshftr

I think the way to hold the window up. would be to have a clip of some sort, the is at the bottom of the door. When the window is in the up postion your clip the strap to the clip on the bottom of the door. When the window is down have a clip at the top of the door, to keep it nice a neat.
This will only give you up or down, but I think it will work.

It's not too complicated. You just need to remove the window regulator, strongly attach the leather/nylon strap on the window clip, pass the strap by the window door hole and add a little hook on the inner side panel to select the right level.
