Safety Belt warning light

I have a 1980 911SC and have noticed recently that when driving, the safety belt warning light will unexpectedly light up for 4-5 seconds, then shut off. This does not always happen, but has happened enough time to make me wonder if somthing is going wrong. I am wearing my seat belt when this happens.

Can anyone tell me what causes this to happen?

the connection under the seat may be loose or have a crack in the sensor within the seat.

Where is the sensor located for these seats? There are no wires to either of the seats in my car.

Ignore this if stupid and not relevant.

In my 88 when the regulator was sending voltage spikes into the electrical system, my seat belt light would randomly come on. New alternator == end of random light. Does an 80 have the same timed light as an 88?

Yes. The fasten seat belt light on my '80 is timed and goes on for seven seconds when you start the car, then goes out. The light does not go on if I unfasten the seat belt while driving.

It would stand to reason that electrical spikes from the regulator would cause this. Thanks for the tip!
