door locks

I dissassembled my -84 targa for paint last year. This included taking out the 1/4 vent window and side window channels as well as door handles etc.
The door lock itself resides in the door handle. Why don't you just loosen the 2 allens and detach the door handle with lock? Why take out the window etc.
BTW, my door latches became increasingly hard to open after I reassembled the car. Turns out I forgot to lube the mechanism. I sprayed all the stuff inside the door and now the both doors operate effortlessly.
