78SC Euro / AC Reciever Drier Photos and Questions...

I've had excellent results posting pictures -- and then asking questions about them, that I'll add a few more:

This is the first time I've had my front wheels off, anything special to be learned from this picture - not sure if there is anything special about my front brakes:

And another one:

Now for the real questions - my new Bentley manual tells me that my AC/Reciever/Drier is usually in the rear of my front left wheel housing.

But I don't have anything there. Nada.

What I do have is in the left rear housing is as follows:

Another pic:

And lastly:

Is the item pictured my AC/Reciever/Drier?

Thanks again in advance guys!

Look like you have an extra condenser in your rear fender with a fan to pull or push air. That condenser needs a good cleaning. Are you certain you have noting at the back of your front wheel well?

I'm positive, I have nothing at the left or right front.

Here's a pic of what I have in front left wheel well.

Any ideas?

After market or Jerry rig a/c system by a PO.

Every a/c system has a receiver drier or an accumulator.

You need to look around and find out where the PO mounted the receiver drier.

Hey you're in Chi-town

I am clueless as to where the receiver or accumulator could be.

What is the extra condensor that I've taken a pic of in the left rear wheel well?

It may be in the passenger wheel well or the engine compartment. Most times they are black cylindrical bout 2-3" diameter and 8-10" long. Will have a hose in and hose out.

The brakes look preatty normal to me, just standard SC calipers with a poor paint job. Im clueless on the AC, mine never had it.

I have an 80 911SC Euro and also have an auxillary condenser mounted in the rear quarter that is similar to yours. I do not have the under belly condensor setup. The reciever/dryer on mine is mounted in the front passenger side front fender. I don't have any pictures at work to post.

More pics of 78SC Euro left rear AC? Condenser?

John - I think you might be on to it here, I think the Euro's mounted in the left rear. I'm attaching more pics to see if I can shed additional light....

Do these pics shed any light?

Thanks again in advance guys.

The euro SCs that I have seen have a smaller condenser in the engine grille, and no condenser under the chin, so it makes sense that someone would have tried to augment the system with an additional aftermarket condenser in the fender. I don't know who it was manufactured by, though.

My SC has an oversized decklid condensor and a simillar fender mounted fan cooled condenser. The hot discharge gas from the compressor goes to the fender mounted condensor first then to the secondary grill mounted condensor. I like the fact that the mojority of the heat is rejected in the fender. The PO did the AC upgrade while the car was registered in Dallas. He installed a rotary compressor, oversized grill mounted condenser, rear quarter mounted condensor and replaced all the hoses. I think the total bill came to almost $3,000. I am still running R-12 and it works well.

I can take some pictures if you want to see what mine looks like.

acapella8,

Follow the hoses... there should be two hoses attached to the evaporator assembly hiding in the smugglers box at the rear of the fron trunk under the carpet. These should exit the bottom of the smugglers box on the driver's side and one of them should go to your receiver/dryer. Typically, the A/C lines on a 911 are placed behind the left rocker panel and the oil lines are behind the rocker panel on the right side of the car.
