Odd early 911 steering wheel part number
 

Can anyone tell me on what model Porsche this wheel originally came?

"914 347 805 10"

also has a "7 70" and the VDM, of course

Dave - that's a leather-rimmed 380mm 914 wheel from July '70.

It's quite common for early 911 owners to replace their original 400mm wheel with one of these slightly smaller (but similar looking) 914 wheels - in fact the '73 Carrera RS used a leather-rimmed 914/6 wheel.

Dave, Andy, I did just that. The 380mm wheel is a much better size to work with. The 400mm wheel is huge. :(

That was actually the 914-6GT wheel. The reason they were so available is Porsche had “kits” to convert a standard six into a GT. They tried to homologate the “kit” as a car but the FIA didn’t go for it. I bought several complete kits and lots of the parts, including 50 or so steering wheels. I still have one on my ’68. The '67 horn butterfly fits nicely.

Will it go onto my '73 914-6 conversion? It retained the 914 steering column. I'm not sure about the spline interface.
