Interior lights came on while driving

I have an ongoing issue with my interior lights not working when the doors are open (they work if you move the rocker to always on).

Well I was driving my car today and the interior lights suddenly came on. I had to move them to always off position so i didn't drain my battery.

I'm thinking there must be a wire that is exposed and causing a short?

I would start with the switches in the door jamb.
