Porsche wheel stitching repair / sources?

anyone have a contact that does wheel stitch repair or refurbishes wheels? I would like to keep the factory stitch but my local source in Austin can't do it that way. Any people have experience with anyone that does a good job or has pricing, contact info?

thanks!!
John

Cool

It's easy to do. You can go to your local Tandy leathercraft store and buy the pieces. I bought my stuff at wal-mart.

what type of thread and needle did you use? did the needle have a slight hook and did you go with wax thread?

I used the Pelican Parts leather cover...works great looks like original and is relatively easy to do once you remove the steering wheel. The cover is pre cut and stitched with thread supplied. You have to supply glue, needle and thread the cover together. Take your time and it will last. Mine has lasted for 4 years.

john, will you be using new leather? i did not and just restiched. i went and got all the fancy needles and such and found that when just doing a restich the strait needle worked best. get the wheel off the thing and do it on the couch in the evenings next to the wife while she does her needle point. get the wheel done, maybe a pointer or two from the misses, and most important you get credit for quality time.

LOL..I can't even tell you how many times my wife has wanted "quality time." I am literally just trying to restitch a perfect wheel with the leather on it and it just needs a re-sew. I pulled thread out from because it was all frayed. I was considering doing the thing myself, but I want to get the right type of thread and needle. The leather guy told me that Porsche had this done with a machine.

I restitched mine. None of the holes were buggered up. Only the thread was broken. I'm not sure if I used a curved needle or not, but I don't think one is really necessary. My interior is burgundy and the steering wheel is black, so I used a dark red thread and it looks very handsome, like the driver.
