engine cleaning
What's the best way to clean a 911 engine? ( I'm not taking it out). Aside from a battery disconnect and covering electronics components, what are the recommended cleaners/methods? It's not real filthy, just the typical oil and dirt film.
Thanks, Joe |

Choose a solvent with some butyl in it - cuts oil and grime really well. Be careful around the plastic and rubber components - some solvents will dry them out and make'm crack.

I have it under good advisement that Gunk Engine Brite works good... so I picked up a couple cans at my FLAP... Now that I'll be getting a '69 Targa, and transplanting my engine into it, I'll clean the engine after I extract it from my '70 coupe.

if 'typical' and 'not real dirty' means to you what it means to me... I'd just leave it running and spray with Simple Green or similar and the flush off immediately. Don't leave it on.
Be sure to get the bottom and don't let the water go into the storm drains. Then go for a drive. When you get back the engine will be dry. Check for any areas that still have a film on them and spot clean with a rag & brake cleaner.
